A storytelling approach
Documentary photographs are different from the traditional portraits we’re used to seeing. Since birth, most of us have been conditioned to pose or smile when someone is taking our picture. There’s nothing wrong with these kinds of photos. However, they only tell a fraction of the story.
Life is so busy that it flies by in today’s fast-paced world. With everything going on, it can be hard to remember the things that make our lives unique. And families take a lot of the brunt of this busyness when it comes to their memories and living in the moment.
I photograph families
living their lives.
I offer families — new and old, big and small — the opportunity to pause and reflect on their lives through still images. As a documentary photographer, I capture the unfiltered world unfolding around me.
Rather than self-documenting their existence, the families I photograph are documented living their authentic lives.
Moments
Real, unscripted moments take time to capture. What I love about documentary photography is that you can’t force it. It takes more than having “a good eye.” It requires patience and the ability to listen.
